Evidence of the high school bond funds that were approved by voters in 2010 (“Measure A”) abounds at both Los Altos and Mountain View High Schools.  New solar energy systems have appeared in the high school parking lots and are now supplying about fifty percent of the District’s electricity needs and contributing about $500,000 per year towards the general fund.  Construction of a new swimming pool and weight room at Mountain View High is well underway and scheduled for completion in February 2012.  The next major construction project:  new classrooms at both schools.

The primary purpose of Measure A was to fund classroom expansion at both schools to accommodate expected growth in the student population.  The designs for new buildings at each school have recently been finalized.  A new two-story structure at Los Altos High, located in the grassy area northwest of the large gym, will house twelve new classrooms.  Two new single-story structures at Mountain View High will house nine new classrooms plus three new science labs and will be located in the grassy area along Bryant Avenue. Renderings of the new buildings are shown below.

Construction should begin next April and be completed in time for the start of the 2013-2014 school year.
